Cleaning sprays and lung health
A 20-year study of more than 6,000 people found that women who regularly cleaned, at home or for work, lost lung function faster than women who didn’t. For women who cleaned for a living, researchers compared the decline to smoking close to a pack a day for 20 years.

Sprays and adult asthma
In a study of 3,503 adults across 10 European countries, using cleaning sprays just once a week was linked to about a 50% higher risk of asthma symptoms. Using them 4 or more days a week was linked to double the risk of diagnosed asthma.

The air inside your home
The EPA reports that levels of many volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors. Cleansers, disinfectants, aerosol sprays, and air fresheners are all listed sources. VOCs can cause headaches, dizziness, and eye, nose, and throat irritation.

Keeping little ones safe
Household cleaning products are the number one cause of poison exposures in children age 5 and under, with more than 87,000 cases reported to U.S. poison centers in 2024.
